Food Trend -- Eye on the Fry

In the recent edition of Flavor & The Menu -- chefs nationwide are experimenting with both toppings and sauces to compliment the humble French fry.

What better trend to explore for snack food and potato chip producers.  Smoke’s Poutinerie, makes one fry dish with smoked pulled pork, peppercorns and bacon.  Another favorite is their rendition of Philly Cheese Steak topped fries.

At The Original, their Trainwreck fries are an impressive combination of Italian style chili with Tillamook Cheddar Fondue.

“Toppings add savory umami notes and play on the craveable salty-sweet flavor profile — both things institutionalized with ketchup,” says Kara Nielsen, CCD Innovation trendologist

Other locales are playing on traditional Korean BBQ, or Southwest inspired chili with cilantro, and even sweet treats like Nutella and Peanut Butter.
